Starting invisalign

#1 Post by thatchick »

I started my invisalign today. I got my first trays in and I had 8 attachments put in, I feel like that seems like a lot. Do you think so?
I had braces about seven years ago and have slight crowding in my lower teeth. This is why I chose invisalign. My dentist said that my invisalign is "invisalign express" when I first went in for my consultation she said 4-6 months. I am now on 1 of 13 trays so that means I will have invisalign for about 6.5 months. I was expecting less because I have minimal work to be done, I was also surprised on how many attachments I received today since my teeth are not very crooked. My problem area is my lower but i received 4 attachments on top and 4 on bottom. The top attachments are on my bicuspids and it is making me feel insecure, it feels weird and looks like my teeth are abnormal. Anyone else have this problem?

Just from reading forums and blogs, I feel like a lot of Invisalign patients are not really given the full picture of how their treatment will go until they are already locked in. The commercials make it seem like they are totally invisible but very few patients get treatment without the 'attachments'. Maybe you have so many attachments because your orthodontist is trying to give you super fast results...

Keep in mind that you probably notice them much more than anyone else does. We are constantly looking at our teeth but other people don't really notice or care LOL.

It is the responsibility of the dentist or orthodontist to talk about how treatment will go and what will be involved. Invisalign is a publicly traded company and their interest is in making it seem like patients are buying Invisalign rather than the expertise from the doctor. They want to make Invisalign seem as simple and convenient as possible.

All of our patients are given information about the entire Invisalign process and we have a website detailing various parts of treatment not on the Align website. It is at http://www.torontobraces.ca. I would rather have patients understand exactly what they are getting into as there is nothing to hide.

It is our experience that all patients feel that their attachments are much more visible than they really are. Even if the attachments can be seen Invisalign is still a much better aesthetic treatment that with any kind of braces.
