Narrow arch; what is tipping out of teeth?

#1 Post by Pati527 »

51 and considering Invisalign. I have a narrow arch & it was really recommended that I do SARPE which I polietly declined. An invisalign provider told me he can straighten my teeth my widening the arch by tipping teeth out a little. I understand that this is unstable & I will need perment retention. What I don't understand though, is what is tippping out exactly? I think of it as buck. Do they slant ever so slightly or do all of the front teeth simply moved forward? I have a narrow arch and a cross bite of the 2nd molar. I realize this is a short cut & I'm ok with it being a short cut b/c of my age, but am wondering how it will change my appearance and how much tipping out is required.

Is the Invisalign provider a good orthodontist? Do you have a crossbite?

The tipping out of teeth is likely not the front teeth but rather the posterior segments. In other words, since your arch is narrow, instead of moving the entire right/left back segments laterally, those teeth will have their roots stay in the same place, but the crowns will be slightly pushed out towards the cheek side.

Is this bad for your teeth? I was told years ago that I really needed the SARPE procedure but was never offered this. I'm wondering if this is just going to cosmetically correct my smile versus functionally correct it?

If the ortho. is not careful, it can ruin the gums and roots from what

I've read. I would search about tilting if I were you. You can find some

info. on this website.

I had my arch widened quite considerably, but I must say I am not sure whether it was done by this tipping method. It looks much better though and after two years I have had no issues with my upper teeth or root problems.
