Anyone ever had Invisalign to move porcelain crowns??HELP??
Hello to you Invisaligners, I am new to this board. Please bear with me as I describe my mouth drama. I am 49 years old and preparing to have impressions made for clear aligners. I've read several posts about the breaking in period and I am getting freaked out. As a child I had anklyosed molars that never erupted properly, they remained fused to the upper and lower jaw bones. I inherited this condition from my father. I had them all removed surgically 2 years ago with plans in a year from then to get dentures so I can chew food. I had consulted an orthodentist as a teen and as a young adult about braces but had deep rooted fears about having metal on my teeth. After the oral surgery, I decided to have ceramic crowns placed on my upper teeth for appearance sake and because I was impatient. I am not happy with them at all, they look fine but are most uncomfortable. My lower bite is way off , my natural teeth on the bottom have begun to shift and the way I bite is putting so much pressure on my upper bite. I've cracked one crown in the process. I've decided to undergo braces now and the orthodontist is recommending Invisalign. He suggested Invisa over metal and ceramic metal braces #1) because I have porcelain crowns #2) the traditional braces don't stay in place on porcelain. The Invisaligns look easy to take on and off of the samples shown in orthodontist's office, and also very lightweight to make a difference but from the posts I've read so far, I'm worry I could remove a crown in the process or experience even more extreme discomfort. I am assuming that you all had Invisalign over natural teeth. The dentist who installed the crowns has assured me that I don't have to worry about this right now. I may or may not have to have one or all of my crowns replaced if and when the movement of teeth warrant it. She and my ortho have worked together on my treatment plan. She will begin the process by filing down each side of the crowns. Then my ortho will do impression mold s for the top and bottoms of my teeth. I have a total of 21 teeth including the four crowns, and I am worried that getting invisalign could be a mistake. They will be quite expensive, about $5K with my insurance covering $1500 of it, and I am afraid that after all this work, if my teeth won't budge or my crowns are affected, I am going to lose my smile. As the orthodontist said, there are no guarantees. I want to get my dentures eventually. I gained a sense of self-confidence after the crowns were set. Should I be getting a second opinion? If anyone has had experience with Invisalign over other dental work, please advise. Thank you.
If i were you, i'd go to a very high quality cosmetic dentist with experience in this exact thing.
The way i understand it, each time they replace crowns they can damage the peg a bit, and for high quality crowns it can be very expensive. £800 a tooth for high quality materials in the UK, so approx $1500 a tooth?

I have 2 crowns and used Invisalign with no problem. Like Meryaten said...my ortho had told me...if they come off, they were going to fail soon anyway. I worried more about pulling out my natural teeth!!! It sure feels like you're going to sometimes when you remove the new trays. I always started a new tray after supper and left them in as long as possible before removing them for the first time. I've had friends that had crowns come loose without any stress on the teeth. They just go get em glued back in. A second opinion is always a good idea! Here in the US, most orthos do the initial consultation for free. Gotta love free...
