Retainers

What are the retainers like and how do they fit? Are they behind the teeth or are they like aligners on top of the teeth?

I think you need to be more specific. Some retainers are just like the invisaligns, I think. The retainer I had was a little thicker. Some people get permanent metal bars that are placed on the inside (lingual).

If you poke around in the Naked Tooth forum you'll find lots of info on the different types of retainers, and the pros and cons of each. In the end I just went with what my ortho provided, an essix-type retainer which is similar to an Invisalign tray.
