Well - my uppers are almost completed and Im sooo happy with the results (as I have expressed several post before)
I LOVE MY TEETH! Doc says they cant get anymore perfect. WHOOOOA!
But Im disappointed in something else... retainers...
I still have 8 more trays to go on my lowers, so I asked him what will happen now that my uppers are done. He said Invisalign is going to make me a retainer to keep on my uppers until my lowers are completed. I asked him if I can get a permanent retainer on my lowers when they are complete and he said "no way". He doesnt like permanent retainers and doesnt put them on any of his patients. He is a very well known, famous dentist in Beverly Hills, so I must say - I listen to every word he says. Im just very disappointed that Im going to have to deal with traditional retainers, once the Invisalign retainers are completed.
I asked how long I will have to wear Invisalign retainers and he said it depends on how well my gums heal and to expect about 6 months, regulary and after that - in the evening time, but that he wont know for sure until I start wearing them.
I was really looking forward to permanent retainers on the bottom - but Im not getting it. :(

Well, I will be getting permanent retainers (at lwast it's written in my treatment plan), and after reading about teeth shifting with them on, I plan to ask myOrtho about going the regular retainers route vs. perm. Did he say why you can't?

No, he didnt say why. Although I wonder. When I was about to ask, my husband asked him a question and we got off the subject.
Maybe next time I see him, I will ask. Next visit is Sept 16.
I will then only have one tray left.... ya!

Ohh forgot to mention - I did see on other sites that a lot of people dont like perm retainers, because they cant floss. My hubbys boss has a permenant one and he cant stand it and wants it off. Food gets stuck in the back of the teeth - between the retainer and one time he broke a tooth pick off in between his teeth and retainer and had to go to the dentist to get the toothpick out. Wow!
But then I have a coworker who has amazing teeth - (who used Invisalign also for 1.5 years) Acutally she has the second best teeth I have ever seen and she loves her perm retainer.
My exboyfriend has the best teeth I have ever seen. They are BEAUTIFUL!!! He gets comments all the time and people think they are fake - but they are not. He is an actor, so everyone thinks he had them paid for and they are fake, but if you look at his pics when he was a child, he has always had the amazing smile and teeth.
I guess it all depends on the person again.
