Aligner doesn't fit right

#1 Post by Worried »

Hi, Everyone.

After I put in aligner #8 for the first time, I noticed that it didn't fit over my front teeth as well as my past aligners. It hangs lower than it should, but it does snap into place where the buttons are. My dentist told me to leave it in for another week, but I have, and it still isn't fitting right.

She said that I might have to get new aligners created and that she would request getting buttons on my front teeth to make sure the aligners fit right. I really don't want this to happen as it would make the aligners much more noticeable.

Has anyone had a similar situation, and what was your dentist's solution?

Thank you!

I had a similar experience with the last 2 aligners on the bottom. When I noticed that they were not fitting as nice as they had been before my dentist told me to wear each one for 3 weeks (normally I go 2 weeks at a time) and he put little notches in the aligners over the stubborn tooth to help the aligner grip it better. When I went in for my visit on the last day of my bottom aligners that one tooth was tipped slightly, wearing the aligners for and extra week each and the notches he put in helped some but in the end that one tooth was not perfect ( of course everyone else raves about hoe perfect my bottom teeth are and how incredibly straight they are but I guess when your looking in the mirror securitizing every space and angle you’ll likely to notice whatever one else won’t)

My dentist suggested that since my teeth were straight with the exception on that one tooth ( damn that tooth!) and since my top teeth had such a long ways to go before they were completed (12 on bottom and 52 on top) we could leave any revisions for when my top teeth were completed and do it at the same time so everything had the best chance of lining up correctly. He said it was up to me so I agreed with him and now I wear my last aligner on the bottom at least 12 hours a day and keep changing the top every 2 weeks. A little bit of space is not always the end of the world but it is good to keep and eye on it.

I think worse case scenario would be you’d have to go through the awful molds again (yuck) and get a new set of aligners. If you have to get bumps on the front teeth it won’t be so bad. You’ll notice them but chances are no one else will, I have four bumps on the bottom, 2 on each side of my front teeth and one is a canine that sticks out some and no one has noticed mine.

Good luck and try to stay positive. It can be tough on this board because so many people talk about there bad experiences but so far I have nothing but good things to say and I’m considered a “complicatedâ€
