Hi, over the past the year or so I've been using a palate expander (ALF) to help me achieve a wider smile. I'm aware some people find expansion in adults a bit of a grey area and open to debate, but it has been a success for me personally.
Naturally, with a wider arch spaces have occurred. I'm hoping to close these spaces with clear aligners but was wondering how this will be achieved. I'm aware clear aligners can struggle with rotating teeth, however, particularly in my upper arch they are generally straight. So I'm wondering whether the pre-molars & molars can (or will?) be moved forward to close to space, or whether the front teeth will be pushed back to close it.
I'm just a little concerned if it were the latter, as my objective was to:
a) achieve a broader smile - if the teeth are further back then it isn't making use of the space, right?
b) improve oral habits - I was a mouth breather, not sure when I started that habit but it was a hassle to break. The ALF system has provided room to rest my tongue on the roof of the mouth (front arch was expanded forward as well). Previously my front teeth wouldn't give space for the tongue.
I know it's all computerised so was wondering if someone could give me an insight of what I can expect technlogy to do. My orthodonist is of course aware of what the goal was, so I'm hopeful I won't be disappointed.
Limitations?
