New to Invisalign

#1 Post by cherbe3 »

Hi everyone,

Started my Invisalign journey yesterday. Have a few questions/concerns that I hope ye can help me out with.

Firstly my god they are a b**** to get out, it feels like my teeth are coming with them, and my god, my poor nails, please tell me this gets better. It can be really sore pull them out, like teary eye sore. I knew it was going to be difficult are my teeth are very crooked. I have 12 attachments, 5 on top and 7 on bottom. Please tell me it eases up, I dunno if I can do 2 years of taking 10 minutes to get them out each time.

Oh and another worry, when I took them out for the first time, I slightly bent the top of one of the tooth grooves, so now it sticks out slightly, hmm thats a bad explanation, erm ok on my canine the plastic sits perfectly on my tooth except for the top bit that sticks out, will this do anything, it doesn't seem like it would but being new I'm not too sure.

Another concern I have is keeping them clean, I live in Ireland so Retainer Brite is not available, any one know any other product that I could use, that wouldn't stain them?

And finally, the trays I have in don't seem very finished and are sharp along the edge, would it be ok to get a nail file and smooth them down to stop them cutting me?

Looking forward to getting some advice

Hi there, I am Aditi. I used to cry trying to get my aligners off. I had 11 attachements and it was really hard to do. I got some plastic gloves, they call them nitrile gloves or latex gloves here (medical gloves) and when I had one of those on they come of easy. The thing is, you should figure out which side is best to remove them on and try to stick to that side. For me if I take them off the left side I get excruciating pain. But if I remove from the right side very little pain.

If one sticks out a bit just file it to the point of comfort.

I just keep mine clean by brushing them really well every time I take them out and using toothpaste on them twice a day and rinsing really well. I use soft brushes I get in a 6 pack from amazon.

I file down the sharp edges before I ever put them in. Sometimes I will file, put them in, try them out and then take out and file some more. Also, as you wear them during the 2 weeks or whatever for each set they do stretch and change a bit, so sometimes I file again. I use 2 nail files, one is fairly rough and does for a first pass and then I have a really fine file that makes them super smooth. Just be careful you only file off those parts that stick out and make your mouth sore.

Best wishes. :)
