poll: what do you drink with your aligners in?

#1 Post by PIMPmyTEETH »

be honest, just curious how many wearers actually abide by the invisalign rules and only drink water.

i've only been on tray 1 for a week, and i've been bad only once. i went out and drank beer for about 4 hours in total. other than that, it's been strictly water.

i figure that i will be drinking alcoholic beverages with them in around once per aligner on weekends, and at most twice. if it's only for a few hours once or twice per aligner, is it really that big a deal?

curious to see people's responses and thoughts on this one!

I've got two days left on my first aligner. I've probably drank about a 12 pack of beer so far with them in. No adverse effects whatsoever. I just try to rinse both my mouth and the alligners ever few hours when drinking and then brush them really good when i'm done for the night. I think it would be much much worse to have them out for hours at a time.

I am on tray 13 out of 21. At the beginning, I drank at least one cup of coffee a day with the trays in, and although there was no real visible stains immediately, when I went for my regular teeth cleaning at about tray 9, I could see some marks on my teeth and my dentist commented that they were stained. I never had that problem before invisalign. Now, I am much more careful - I still drink coffee with them, but go and rinse out my mouth and aligners as soon as I am done. Juice and anything else... nope, do not drink that with aligners in. Only water.

coffee, huh? i'd be afraid that the heat would warp the trays?

Guilty!

I drink, diet soda and alcohol at times with my aligners in. I dont drink juice, regular soda or anything hot for fear of the sugar eatting my teeth (Im a cavity phobe ) and my ortho told be hot liquids would warp the trays. ( I know, I know - alcohol has sugar too but I do drink water along side and rinse more often at those times  )

I've never had any problems with staining my teeth or aligners. I think as long as you stick mostly to water and are careful to rinse and brush after you do induldge in the "forbidden drink" you'd be ok but of course only your ortho can say for sure.

luckily, i've never had a cavity in my life. apparently, i have really tough enamel. :D does anyone else have some filmy, white stains on their aligners that are a bit of a pain to get out?? i have some on my lower aligners...i wonder if it's from the drinking with the aligners in??? or, maybe its from brushing the aligners with toothpaste too often? :S

I have found that rinsing the aligners immediately after taking them out and brushing them before I put them back in helps to control the white film that seems to build up. I use just a tiny amount of toothpaste when I brush them.

I've had invisalign for 3.5 weeks. My ortho said I can drink anything (excluding hot stuff). I drink pretty much anything sugar free with them in. This might sound odd, but I also eat with them in. I'm on a diet so I like to eat small portions throughout the day. At work, it's too much of a hassle to take out my aligners 5-6 times just to eat a cracker or something. So I just eat with them in. I like it cause it makes me eat a lot slower. The only think I'm worried about is cavities. Does anyone else eat with them in? I don't eat anything I have to 'chew'. Mostly things that sort of dissolve. I'm probably bizarre.

bizarre? i would consider bizarre anyone that would actually enjoy taking these things out everytime they eat!!!

i don't blame you for not wanting to take them out everytime you eat. i eat about 5 meals a day too. although i dont enjoy it, i always take mine out for fear of doing damage while chewing.
