Lefort I surgery, March 2021

#1 Post by Mermaid »

I just got my official surgery date. I am having Lefort I surgery, not sure yet if I will need palate expansion. With the way things look now, I am guessing so. The surgeon will model my upper arcade so it's level. One side of it is significantly lower than the other, and I have a crossbite, and also a very narrow palate.

I am 58 and got my braces on January 2020.

I will try to update this as things progress. Right now I am waiting for my pre-surgical bloodwork to be sure all my body parts are working properly.
I will have an appointment to make models at the oral surgeon in a couple of weeks. Then I will have an appointment with him just prior to surgery so we can talk about his surgical plan. I will then need a negative Covid test right before surgery.

Surgery scheduled for March 22nd. I've requested 3 weeks off from work and have purchased a Vitamix blender for my post-surgical food prep. (If you can swing it, it's a pretty great kitchen tool).

Here is my pre-surgical bite, the yellow line is where the midline is supposed to be.

Here I am before any correction, and after a year of braces, ready for surgery.

Presurgical CT scan. This is what my surgeon will use to work out how to remodel my maxilla. Pretty neat technology.

I've purchased a good neck pillow as I am told I won't be sleeping while laying flat for at least a few days, if not longer. This pillow is what was recommended by a youtube vlogger who had surgery, and I can already tell it's going to be great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PP ... UTF8&psc=1

Also purchased was this mask https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CV ... UTF8&psc=1

and whey protein concentrate, unflavored, no sugar or anything else. I can add it to anything savory or sweet, and it will add protein without being icky. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KI ... UTF8&psc=1

These squeeze bottles were also recommended for drinking after surgery.

My write up may help you w/nutrition, swelling, and sleep. (I went through this twice, but that's not the norm.)
