How long does it take Gap to close caused by braces?

Recently I got thicker wires and power chains and got elastics. I’m about 7-8 months in treatment and they estimated me a year for surgery. Although I’m wondering how long it takes gaps to close, because one just formed. It’s concerning I had another one earlier in the process caused by braces, and they said they were gonna close the gaps up. A few months later I have another one. How long does it take gaps to close? They said my surgery can take more or less than a year but they will mold it in a years time to see if I’m ready. I’m concerned because if I have a gap wouldn’t my surgery have to be pushed back until it closes? Also my surgeon requested to see me two months prior to when I’m ready for surgery. I’m going to schedule an appointment with him in April for 3D imaging. If the bite fits in the 3D X-ray can I request surgery or do I have to wait for the orthodontic mold?
