Accidentally took Aleve 3 days before surgery

#1 Post by SamBracingForIt »

I was half asleep and took an Aleve (naproxen) in the middle of the night and went back to sleep. It wasn't until I was fully awake yesterday morning that I realized what I'd done. Has anybody else made this stupid mistake, and what happened? Did you have to postpone surgery? Obviously, I'm going to discuss it with my surgeon tomorrow, first thing, but just wondering if anybody has done anything similar.

Hi There-discuss what happened with the surgeon; you probably took the dose recommended on the bottle and not a prescription strength dosage. In other words, a low dose.

Interestingly enough; my surgeon ordered Celebrex in the holding area, immediately before surgery. Naproxen and Celebrex are both NSAIDs; however Celebrex falls into a new NSAID line of Cox 2 Inhibitors.

The big concern for taking aspirin & NSAID's before surgery is bleeding.

As it was a one-off dose you might be ok, and three days prior to your op puts you in a good position... Having said that, only your surgeon will be able to say one way or the other. Good luck!
