Hearing heartbeat in head

#1 Post by Trickishaura »

I am 16 days post op and My head has been throbbing since about 7 days post op. All day everyday day since then all I hear is my heartbeat in my head. Now for the last couple days I have had a migraine that won’t go away. Has anyone else had this?

Hi There- not sure about your throbbing headache. That could be a number of things. Caffeine intake for one if you've stopped. I know I could not drink anything carbonated and did not even try to drink coffee with a numb mouth.

The amplified heartbeat is (I think) is due to swelling in your face .Swelling most likely extends into ears where sounds will be amplified due to the fluids surrounding the operative field areas.

I haven’t been drinking anything caffeine at all, but then again I normally don’t. I don’t like coffee either.

As for swelling I’m 16 days post op and the swelling in my face has gone away

That's great! My swelling took much longer to go away completely.

FWIW, my eustacchian tubes fill up pretty frequently, and I get the similar 'hearing heartbeat' effect. Totally unrelated to surgery, but thought maybe something to think about.
