Orthognathic surgery in London

#1 Post by Sptz »

Hi everyone,

So, I'm 30, turning 31 this year. I've always had a massive occlusion which makes my bite terrible and teeth never look like they're touching together. Luckily, my teeth grew against my jaw misalignment so they look ok, as well as my facial profile.

I've been told I needed this treatment, braces + surgery since I was 17 I've never done it cause I was afraid of permanent lip numbness, the problem is I was unaware of the issues this would cause to my back, shoulders etc, of which I suffer quite a lot of stiffness and pain.

I decided it's time to take action and go for it, I don't want to go through NHS as it will take a minimum of 2 years IF I even qualify. The problem is searching for good practices in London is terrible, there's no official index that I'm aware of, where I can see the best rated surgeons, list of prices etc.

I could go to my country of origin, Portugal, and have it done there but I'm guessing with recurrent visits needed, all those plane flights will add so much to the price it will end up being the same thing almost.

Does anyone have any recommendations in London?

Thanks in advance!

I can see this topic was posted a long time ago but saw it and wanted to respond. I’m currently going through orthodontics and jaw surgery in London. Your best bet would be to have an initial consultation with a private orthodontist. Explain what you don’t like about your teeth and jaw and they will refer you to the required specialist. I went to an orthodontist not knowing about jaw surgery options and they explained that surgery would be required so referred me to an nhs hospital. The initial consultation with the nhs didn’t take long to get at all but then yes, if they decide that you qualify it took quite a few months before treatment began but nothing like 2 years, part of the delay in starting is because I wanted to take time to really consider this option because it’s quite an investment in time but also emotion.
