Urge to bite down

#1 Post by ikn91 »

It’s now 10 days since my lefort1 (downward and forward movement), and I’ve been wearing a splint with bands shutting my mouth ever since. A few days after surgery, when not that tender anymore, I’ve had a urge to bite down carefully, but with a bit of pressure. My surgeon said something about the metal hardware not hard enough for me to bite down without the splint because my bite is not stable. But I guess with the splint in, and therefore a stabile bite will be Ok? Because we dont’t know what we do in our sleep for example. Some people do press their teeth together then. I’m just so worried that I am ruining my result, and that the hardware is giving after and bending because of the pressure that I’ve put on it, and that the downward movement was for nothing... It’s hard to see in the mirror as I don’t remember exactly how it was. Does anyone have opinions on this?
