Was told daughter will need jaw surgery(she is 15) approximately in a year to correct her jaw. Figured I would do all the reading I could to prepare for it. Scary stuff. The surgery cannot come sooner for her as she is extremely unhappy with
Her smile, we tell her she is beautiful but she is a teenager
So she isn’t trying to hear us. It kills me that she doesn’t feel
Pretty , so she has braces on and we are on the road to surgery.

She is unhappy with her chin because she says it sticks out
Too far and her top teeth have spaces in between. It kills me
I just want my daughter to feel confident and pretty.

The braces should fix the teeth spacing, but the chin thing is tough. They can fix it with orthognathic surgery and/or a possible genioplasty but in my observation, people who have a prominent chin that gets moved back in the surgery are rarely happy with the change. The mental aspects of adjusting to having a new face are hard enough as it is, and people in that situation seem to almost always complain that their chin was moved back too far and they wish they’d never had the procedure, even if their new chin better matches aesthetic ideals, objectively speaking. Your mileage may vary.
