Jaw realignment surgery !!

So yesterday i went to my ortho to get my wire put on bcuz i got my wisdom tooth removed. It went from a 5 minute appt to a 40 min appt ! They basically reevaluated my case and said to think about having jaw realignment surgery because my lower jaw tilts left and now i have a crossbite 
. My expected removal date was November and now im not sure 
. Has anyone had this kind of surgery? I know everyone's different, (i did fine after getting my wisdom taken out) but did it hurt after ? How long did you have off from work/school?
