Creating a gap before surgery?

Hi everyone My orthodontist sent me a letter saying I will have my expander fitted in a few weeks and he will also be fitting 2 white square's to my two front teeth as he needs to create a gap between them so my surgeon can get between them to perform sarpe surgery does anyone know how he will create a gap with the white square's??
