Plate removal

#1 Post by glennstanzalone »

I’m having my lower jaw plates removed at 18mo post op. The areas where they sit have been sore and look swollen. I’m hoping the pain will go away after removal and I will regain feeling. My surgeon will also contour my bone down since it healed with a huge lump that extends into my mouth. Anyone have any experience with the swelling? I’ll be taking bromelian and arnica for a week before and after.

Heyyy looks like we might be in the same boat, if my insurance gets approved for the removal! You just have the 2 plates in your mandible, right?

Actually I had three. I just had the removal surgery yesterday and I'm SO SWOLLEN. He contoured the bone down after removing the plates too.

Thank god for that! I’ve been eating everything except super hard or tough foods. My face is definitely holding onto the swelling - I’m concerned it’s going to last as long as the jaw surgery which was 9months of swelling hell.

My surgeon assured me that the swelling would go down much faster after the plate removal. Good luck! :)
