Reputable Jaw Surgeon Recommendations? (Other than Arnett/Gunson)

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie to this site, but have been browsing the forums for about 2 weeks now and wanted some recommendations. I tried searching for surgeon recommendations on the board 'search' function, but found very few recommendations.

I am interested in orthognathic surgery, and my orthodontist recommended Arnett and Gunson for my specific case (related to rotational jaw surgery). To my surprise (and delight), I have found many board topics regarding Arnett/Gunson and their practice. Apparently they are two of the most sought-after surgeons given their expertise and experience.

My only issue is that I would like a 2nd opinion from any other highly regarded surgeon. Initially, I did a search on the internet for all surgeons certified by the ABOMS (American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery), but could not find many names of surgeons who have (1) had patients with good results and (2) have had a history of performing many surgeries. The only surgeons I could find that have a history of performing surgerie s are Dr. Nestor Karas and Dr. Felice O'Ryan (although I have issues with both surgeons. I was only able to find 1 positive review regarding a jaw surgery performed by Dr. Karas, and Dr. O'Ryan has far too many negative reviews.)

Additionally, I noticed that neither Dr. Arnett/Dr. Gunson are NOT board certified, leading me to think that it's more important to find a surgeon with a good reputation/lots of experience.

Anyways, long story short, I am wondering if anyone can recommend jaw surgeons with a track record of success. From what I've gathered from reading on the forums, a lot of surgeons are found word of mouth. If anyone is kind enough to either reply back with some recommendations, or PM me, I would greatly appreciate it.

From what I've gathered, most of the negative reviews of Felice O'Ryan that you would find online were written by one person across a wide variety of review sites, so most of those negative reviews are actually discussing just one person's case. Most of the reviews I've read about her on this site were positive, so I considered consulting with her. She seemed to be one of the most recommended surgeons in the NorCal region. But I ultimately decided to pick someone in SoCal Kaiser because it's closer. Another surgeon I've read good things about on this forum is Dr. Robert Relle. You can search his name on the forum, and you'll find many people satisfied with his work. He is also highly-rated on review sites. I actually don't think I've come across a negative review of him so far.

I recently had jaw surgery with Dr. Richard Jackson in Sacramento. I was very impressed by him and by his staff. I believe that he performs several jaw surgeries per week.

I second Dr. Jackson in Sacramento. He’s awesome.

To Ravenclaw: which SoCal Kaiser Doctor did you choose? My daughter just had her jaw surgery at Kaiser Anaheim last week.

I met with Gabriella Tehrany at Kaiser Sunset. I can't recommend her personally yet because I haven't had my surgery, but she has a number of positive mentions on this forum and great scores on Healthgrades and Vitals. My first two meetings with her have been great so far. I'll be back in a few months once my teeth are ready. Who did your daughter see at Anaheim? Was it Bell?
