This forum is for discussions relating to oral surgery for orthodontics.
I've been dealing with this for so long I don't think I'll ever be able to find a surgeon who will help me. I can't take it anymore. I don't want this life of constantly crying over this anymore. I want my old life back before this stupid surgery. Im so tired of being miserable.
I’m sorry I’ve been out of the loop. My Chin/plate removal was done in the office. It was a horrible experience and unfortunately the awful tightness and pulling is no better. I’m wondering if the surgical fractures are healed properly and also if the mentalis muscle is damaged. I will see surgeon in a few weeks. Hoping for some answers. This is awful. Wish I had better news
im so sorry I was really hoping the removal would end all of our problems!! I think it may be nerve damage then...this stupid surgery!!! I've never felt worse, looked worse, or been more depressed Is the tightness all the time or just when you speak? Do you think the removal made your symptoms worse or stayed the same? Thanks
Its hard to tell if the surgery made things worse; it definitely did not make it better. I also found out that I've been living with an abscessed tooth for 6 months and have to have a root canal. Not sure how so many dentists, orthodontists and the surgeon missed the infection.
I am 7 months post surgery and I had the whole lineup of surgery and feel the tightness in my chin and lower lip. Some days it’s not there at all for moments but then the more I use my mouth the worse the tightness gets.My surgeon offered to remove plate but not so sure I EVER want to have mouth surgery ever again. I’ve resorted to super stretching my lower lip by yanking on it carefully and then trying to massage him line at scar area. I’m glad I found this post because most people look at me funny when trying to explain it. The “oo” sound is the lip movement that drives me most nuts. I’m trying to get steroid injections approved and laser on the scar tissue. Will upadate after either if I get them.
Anyone get an actual reason for the tightness? My surgeon said it’s the movement of the chin out and my skin/muscles are not used to being “out” this far. This sounds plausible but honestly stretching would alleviate this bothersome feeling. One would think if they knew what caused it we could do a little research in figuring out how to undue it.
