Upper Lip and upper jaw Surgery

Ok so 1st hello..I am new to the board 
I will be having surgery soon to bring my upper jaw forward with a Halo device that I must wear for a few weeks. My upper lip is really tight and small,(muy whole mouth is small) wouldn't this make it even smaller/tighter??
The surgery is called "rigid external distraction". I was born with a cleft lip and palet so this is being used to bring it forward slowly.
The main reason for doing the surgery is to open up my airway because it is so small which makes me sleep apnea worst. I have braces too, for the 2nd time at 30 yrs old..because I did not wear the retainers when I got the first set off when I was 18.
