How long does it take to be able to speak normally after surgery?

#1 Post by formania »

I am 4 weeks post-op (double jaw surgery), and I am still hard to understand when speaking. My lower lip and chin are still completely numb. From other people's experiences, how long did it take for your speech to return completely back to normal, where enunciation was not an issue anymore?

I'm still not perfectly clear after 2 months. My jaw is still stiff when I make certain sounds, especially ones where my chin goes forward. It really takes our muscles a long time to acclimate to their new positions. Keep practicing!

I'm about 7 weeks post-op and my soft tissue and muscle tightness makes it hard to talk still. Certain sounds are harder than others. I'm working on it. No one else notices but my cheeks are still swollen which makes it hard to round my lips for certain sounds.
