Longest Time In Braces Pre-Surgery?

What is the longest time that anyone has been in braces prior to surgery?

I've been in braces for 6 years and 10 days now *sigh*.

I finally have an appointment to see the surgeon on the 10th July so maybe I'll get a surgery date but I'm not holding my breath.

Wow. That is a long time.

Did they have to move a lot of teeth or did they not cooperate?

I'm not sure to be honest. I think every tooth has been moved because both my midlines were off centre. At one point a couple of teeth went backwards so that slowed things down a few months.

I was feeling ok about surgery when i researched it 6 years ago, getting really scared now

I had braces for 9 years and 1 month before having surgery March of this year. I am now 7 months post surgery, and I still have my braces on.
My orthodontist has showed so much patience with my teeth! When I first got braces he told us right away it would be difficult, but I don't think even he knew that it wouldn't be over sooner than it is! I have had metal in my mouth since 2002, had to wear expanders, head gear, etc.... I feel like everything that can be done, had been done.
But don't give up. I felt it would never end. I had Jaw surgery in March and I just may have my braces off before I reach the ten year mark. I am soooo excited! I don't even remember what my teeth feel like.

Yikes! That's dedication! I've been thinking that my 2 year sentence in braces seems long- I can't imagine almost 10 years!

2.5 years for me and then had surgery, should be done at the 3 year mark all being well. Wow, knocking on 10 years is dedication for sure Lenny, it'll feel very strange to be de-braced!

Lenny...Oh My Word!! Nearly 10 years in braces! WOW I thought I was bad with 6 yrs +.

I saw a different ortho initially after my surgery who told me I'd have my braces off in 4 months time...I don't believe him considering the amount of work my ortho did to my teeth just last week. But I'm thinking I'll be at the 7 yr mark when I get mine off.

You will deserve to have some kind of big celebration when you get your braces off!

It has been quite the journey!
But I get my braces off in exactly one week! I am sooooo excited!

Its good to know that you get your braces off, 6 yers is a very long time...

Mine were on for just under three years. Which is a lot longer than the one year I was told originally! I was surprised at the beginning as most of my teeth moved immediately. I had lots of crowding at the bottom centre, I basically had shark teeth where some had moved behind the others, and yet within a really short space of time they all moved themselves and I was so surprised.

However, I had a tooth removed on each side, and those spaces did NOT want to go. I think for the last year or so I had braces in purely to try to close those gaps!
