My new underbite :(

Hi all -
I've had an edge-to-edge bite my whole life, and now the orthodontist is giving me an underbite to prepare for surgery. It's very uncomfortable (I keep biting my tongue and the inside of my cheek) and of course I'm super self-conscious about it. Here are my pics. I had SARPE surgery last May and I will have the final surgery this May. My chin has always been prominent and now it is even more so.

I imagine it's rough to go from a normal bite to an underbite. No doubt it's for good reason though! Good luck with the surgery

Thanks! My bite was never 'normal' - edge to edge isn't normal and it's actually painful - but you're right, it's very strange to all of a sudden have a new bite.

Sorry, I'm not up with all the technical terminology

I use the word "normal" loosely. Sorry to hear it was painful to have a bite like that though

I'm lucky with my bite, can't imagine how awful it would be for it to hurt all the time. Braces pain is bad enough. Glad it's all getting fixed though

I wasn't looking at your chin, or your teeth.. You have beautiful hair!

Good luck with your braces! Anything tooth related is not fun!

I've had braces for almost six months now and things are moving pretty slow. Your profile doesn't look that far off, so how much are they planning on moving your jaw(s)?
I don't have final word on that yet. Probably 4 - 6 millimeters forward with my upper palate, and 4-6 back with my chin. I hope to have a final say on this in a month or so. As far as moving slowly, I can totally relate! My surgery date has been moved at least 4 times!

That is very sweet - thank you. I can't really take any credit for it - it's courtesy of mom and dad

All I do is grow it! I have been grateful for my very red (very big!) hair here lately because I feel like it detracts a little from my underbite and braces. I've been very self-conscious.

It's hard when orthodontics make things worse before surgery can make it better. You're already very beautiful though, I think you're going to have an amazing result

You have beautiful everything. Whatever you're doing, you're doing something right.
