Equilibration - Anyone Heard Of This???

#1 Post by RMF7825 »

This procedure is being recommended by surgeon-post-surgery. As I understand it it includes filing down surfaces of teeth so that occlusion is better. Anyone have any experience with this?? Coonsidering see Dr. Mcclendon (Dr Mac)n NYC for this.

Hmm, strange that no one responded to you. I am due to have equilibration after surgery to better incuspate my bite. I have some under-developed mandibular teeth that will need to be slightly altered to create a good occlusion. But I don't know much about this procedure. My surgery is in January and equilibration will probably be a few months afterwards. Are you due to have equilibration?

I haven't heard of this procedure but it sounds similar to what I had done during my double jaw surgery. Probably because I was still a little swollen and on codeine, it took me a couple of days to realize that several of my teeth had been slightly filed down and patched with ceramic fillings. When I asked my surgeon about it he said he did this because I'd had an unusual bite for so long the teeth weren't all the same length so they didn't match up the way in the way they were supposed to. Overall, it was worth it because I've gone from only meeting on two molars to meeting up everywhere. As an aside, I've also seen my orthodontist do similar, but much more limited, tooth filing on patients that are finishing up their treatment.
