Alcohol after Surgery?
Hi everyone,
I am having upper and lower jaw surgery in one week! I can't believe the date is already here. I am a social butterfly ready for my one month of "relaxing" healing but, once I get back to the club scene will I be able to have a drink?
Im not a big drinker (so no risk of silly falls) but I do enjoy the occasional margerita.
Any rules and regulations on drinking alcohol after surgery?
Thanks*

Admittedly I am like the only 30 year old on the planet to have never even tried alcohol, so I can not speak from experience. I would have to say ask your surgeon as he would know better than anyone. Never be ashamed to ask them questions, you are paying them good money for a reason. I do know that alcohol and pain meds are a potentially fatal combination, but I do not see any reason why you couldn't drink after finishing up with them.
And speaking of margarita's, a few of my friends love them, and as a designated driver, I get all the free soda and food I want

Thanks for your reply Crooked Rory!
I was the designated driver these past two weekends and the bartenders were giving me free diet sodas.
Lucky me!!!

Re: Alcohol after Surgery?
Alcohol can interfere with proper healing of fractured or cut bone, from what I have read, making the result weaker.
I would lay off the drinks for the initial 6 weeks, but as always you're best getting the advice from your surgeon.

Good question. Thanks for replying bullfighter. I would have brought up this question sooner or later.
Re: Alcohol after Surgery?
I had a a glass of wine about a week after my op to help me relax... It worked and it made me feel human again. I got the best night's sleep that night.
