'Reduction' Jaw/Chin Surgery Promotes Premature Ageing?

#1 Post by BigJaw »

Hello everyone,

I had a BSSO (setback by 8mm) about 6 months ago. all went well, has healed nicely, 95% of swelling gone. However I am also interested in a genioplasty to reduce the prominence of my actual chin (not jaw!)

The worry I have is that the procedure will obviously involve the 'reduction' of bone, and therefore I'm worried that this will promote 'sagging' around my chin and lower jaw area, making me look older, more quickly (premature ageing if that is the correct term)! Would a technique need to be performed to 'tighten' the skin around the chin? Or is it just left, and say in 10 years time, the skin will sag (I am only 26 years old currently).

It's a significant worry of mine at the moment and it's always playing on my mind. Please could anyone advise me in anyway possible on a general basis.

Thanks,
BigJaw - no longer really bigjaw but bigchin :D
