Insurance pre-authorization for the 2nd surgeon.

If i get insurance pre-authorized with one surgeon and later switch surgeons for whatever reason. Would i have to start all over again as far as getting insurance approval for the 2nd surgeon or will the pre authorization follow the 2nd surgeon.

For dental insurance, my pre-authorization followed me when I switched to a different orthodontist. Maybe it's the same for surgeons?
