Hey guys,
For those who had the surgery, how did you feel after 5 weeks? I'm still very swollen and numb, and my jaw is overall very uncomfortable and the tissue is stiff. I keep biting my tongue and I have some painful spasms. I do feel a little bit better every day, but I expected to feel a lot better by now. I'd say about 70% of the puffiness is gone. Is everything normal? When can I expect to feel 95% normal?

i went back to work 2 weeks post op.. maybe it was 3.. but iw as still quite swollen and a bit bruised up in teh neck area... it wasnt until maybe 1.5 months until most of the swelling went down.. and not until a good 3 months until i felt really good with no bruising and tenderness. 5 months-6 months until i felt 100%
Hi Quince,
I will be 1 year post-op in 2 weeks-and boy what a journey. I reluctantly went back to work at my restaurant after 5 weeks post-op. I was still very swollen and uncomfortable and not eating solid foods yet. Looking back it was all a blur. I am still undergoing physical therapy for stiffness in both my upper and lower lips. Even after a slew of post-op difficulties and 2 surgeries to remove hardware that my body was rejecting, I am still glad I did it. Great thoughts for a speedy recovery!

I'm just over 8 weeks out from surgery, and I can say this week was kind of a "break through" week in that I started feeling mostly normal. I say mostly because I had to be on pain meds last week for a small surgery that was related to my bimax surgery and that kind of set me back a bit. I'm back at work, have very little numbness, and the swelling is only something those closest to me and myself are aware of.
It's frustrating at the point you're at, where we look normal to others but don't feel normal yet, and in the early stages of recovery we could see changes daily in swelling and how we felt...but now it's very slow going and downright annoying at times. The best thing I can tell you is it is normal to experience these things and feel this way...so know that you are not alone and it will get better soon!

once you are able to start eating solid foods, without too much of an issue.. you will start feeling normal.. the shakes and liquid diet will get to you in a hurry.. and the fact that you cannot brush your teeth properly really sucksmountaingirl wrote:I didn't realize it would take so long to be 100%. I'm only 2 weeks post-op so I have a loooong way to go. I hope you start to feel back to normal soon Quince.
