De-Banding Day

#1 Post by phil »

Tomorrow is my debanding day.

I have been reticent to post about it, because I have this nagging fear that I'm going to sit down in the chair, open my mouth, and he'll say, "THREE MORE WEEKS!"

So, anyway, if it really happens, I'll let you all know. If it doesn't happen, I'll let you know too.

Be well, and at peace,

Phil

That's great news! I had my debanding on Monday and getting the bands removed isn't very much fun. The brackets just pop off though.

I can't wait for that day. I was told it would be another few months. :( I had my surgery in April. Anyway--congratulations to you both!

Thanks, all for the well wishes.

I am very anxious (after what I have been through) about pain associated with removal of brackets, especially the ceramic uppers. Anyone had experience with that? I've heard that they don't come off as easily as the metal ones.

I'm trying to think back to when I had braces in high school (wow, that's been a while). I don't remember it hurting when they came off - just some pressure & minor discomfort. I've had three bands removed and reapplied since getting braces this time. One to bond a button to and two others to bond a lingual bar. Two of them caused nothing more than pressure and fear that it was going to hurt. The third actually felt as if my molar was being pulled out by the root. This particular molar is sensitive to everything so that's the reason for the pain when removing the band.

I remember a lady having a molar band removed in a chair next to me several months ago. Either her tooth was extremely sensitive or she was too nervous to let them pull it off, but she complained enough and they ended up taking a saw thingy to cut the band off the tooth instead.

Shouldn't be too bad and your teeth will feel wonderful afterwards!! I love that slimy mayonnaise feeling of brace-free teeth!

Well, de-banding came and went.

For those of you who are not yet banded--here's some advice:

Damons don't come off as easily as standard titanium brackets.

Clear brackets don't come off very easily either, although they went well, comparatively speaking.

If you'd like to see a picture of my bracket-free smile, look here:

I made it.

Be well, and at peace,

After undergoing surgery twice to get there, all I can say is CONGRATS!!!

Mike
I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?
