Embarressing - kissing with a numb lip?

#1 Post by asd »

Im now 8 months post op from surgery, but my bottom lip still isnt completly back to normal its still a little numb. Its strange, its like i can feel pressure now on my lip but no 'feeling' i cant feel textures or pain.

I hadnt kissed anyone since my surgery but have started seeing this guy and kissed him yesterday but it felt very odd, i couldnt really feel anything :( made me feel quite upset to be honest. Will total feeling never come back in my lip?

Healing is slow, but if it has been getting better up to this point it will probably continue to do so. I'm at 10 months post op now. I can now feel it when I lick my lower lip though, and kissing has definitely improved over the last few months.

I totally agree with you that kissing is rather disturbing when you can't completely feel it, and I imagine with a new person it would be even more worrisome. Try and be patient. Mine really has improved a lot in the last couple of months. Before it felt almost completely dead, now I can feel sensation, and have much more surface feeling back. It is truly a marathon recovering from all of this and waiting for things to get better, but as time goes on you will be amazed at how much you will improve.

I would tell the new guy about what you have had done, and discuss the amount of healing time it takes. The truth of the matter is, that he is most likely not going to care that much (In terms of functionality) as long as things feel normal to him. Plus I have found that the more you practice the better it gets. The muscles get stronger and even if you can't feel things completely or areas are patchy you will have more control over them and it will start to feel less weird.

Good luck to you!

Hey

Im only 7 weeks post op, so still completely numb on one side, and can completely understand how your feeling.

Its very strange kissing my boyfriend, but its getting easier and he doesnt seem to notice any change. (tho i have noticed he seems too be bit worried in case he hurts me)

i agree with brandyleigh, if you can talk to him about how you feel.
