Almost done! Surgery Summer, 2006!

I had an ortho appointment today and have another scheduled for May 24th. If things look good then I will finally get my braces off. I simply can't believe it. I'm so ready to be done after upper, lower and genio last summer (July). I'm happy with the results and can't wait to see my teeth. I have one very small numb patch on my right chin and another just below my right lower lip but that continues to diminish as well. Biting and chewing is going very well. BTW, May 24 is the week after I get back home from my wedding/honeymoon...great timing huh? I was hoping for early May but overshot it unfortunately. He had one more round of tweaking. Oh well.

Wow Smile! That is really great news! I'm so happy to hear that you are pleased with your surgery and that your numbness is almost all gone! All that is left is the unveiling of the new smile! Woo hoo! How exciting!

Be sure and post some pics so we can see the new and improved you ok? Congratulations on your upcoming wedding too!

HEY!!! I was wondering where you'd gone!! Man, it seems like your ortho would cut you a little slack and get those things off BEFORE the wedding. I'm so happy for you though!! I got good news today too! June 4th for me!! WE ROCK!!!

Thanks so much for all the good wishes from the surgery crowd of summer 2006. I am excited that I might finally be at the end. This sure beats last summer and all the anticipation of the surgery. I have a small gap on one upper tooth that needs to go away by next month. Hope it does. I'll have the final debriefing with my surgeon after my braces are off. At that point I will get the pre-pictures and post the after pictures finally. I'm really happy with the new look, especially the new chin and shortened vertical length of my face. BTW my orthodontist waits about 2 weeks, after the teeth have settled, to make impresssions for retainers. Have you heard of this????

Brandy, good luck with your surgery. Summer is a great time for teachers to have surgery.

Anabel yeah for you and Meryten, are you getting close? Sure hope so, it's been forever in post-braces for us! Anabel, when is the baby due????

Baby is due July 23rd. For me, regarding retainers, they gave me the rundown today. The de-bracing appointment takes an hour and a half total although the assistant told me it takes her like a minute to pop the brackets off. They will take impressions, put the permanent bottom retainer in that day, then two days later I'll get the removeable retainer for the top.

Can you believe it's been almost a year? So bizarre.

Congratulations smile2006. That's fantastic news that they'll soon be off. You will be rapt with your new smile. It's been a long process for all of the June - September 2006 surgery crowd (sorry Summer 2006 just doesn't sound right when we're just moving into Winter 2007 at this end of the world).

At 3 months post-braces, I'm now on retainer wear at nighttime only and loving the feeling of being able to bite into foods, have teeth and lips that meet how they should, and smiling without being 'all teeth'.

It has been a long journey but so worth it. I'm looking forward to seeing some before and after photos of your new smile.

And best of luck for your upcoming wedding.

Hey smile2006 congrats on you upcoming wedding, i hope you have a fantastic day, and double congrats for getting your final de-bracing day!... and anabel too!!!

can i join in too,... ive been told im getting de-braced May 14th! and im sooo excited! its been over 2 years braced, including 3 extractions and surgery, and i thought this day would never come! cant wait to see my teeth

BTW... i am getting de-braced in the morning, and moulds taken, then i have to go back late afternoon to get my new retainers. its strange how orthos seem to practice differently.

Hmmm, I'm not at all sure what is in store for me. We didn't really discuss the process. I just remember overhearing a chat he had with someone else about letting the teeth settle before molds/retainers are made (when I was in the office for an appointment). I guess time will tell. At the moment I'm obsessed with the little gap to the right of my front tooth that never existed until about a month ago. I guess one of the tweaks the other day was to close this gap. How many thousand times will I look in the mirror at this tooth? I want to be done and I've about convinced myself already it's not going to happen in a couple weeks.

Silly I know but........
