Incredible news!

#1 Post by Svensk Tiger »

I'm so daft. I'm been so busy fretting about the nasty black triangles between my lower teeth that I forgot to post my lovely news

My ortho says...

...that my teeth and bite are perfect and that she is hoping to take my braces off at the appointment after next

I'm less than five weeks post-op and to say that I'm surprised is really an understatement. I am completely, totally astounded. She actually said that it would be very tempting to take them off today but she needs to wait until the swelling has gone down in case things shift then.

This is possibly the best Christmas present I could have hoped for. I thought I would have them on until the summer at least so I am completely in shock. Apparently, there is nothing that needs doing, at all. I still need to wear my elastics but they are doing their job nicely so I can start to reduce wear and see if things remain stable. All being well my braces will be off in February/March.

Considering how terrible I was feeling last week this is something of a turnaround! (My mood is slightly dampened everytime I catch sight of those horrible triangles but I'm trying to ignore them).

WOW- You get the number one speed award at getting your braces off. I'm jealous but very happy for you. How long did you have them prior to surgery? I knew the bulk of my ortho work would be after surgery (I had braces only six months before my surgery). I had surgery in July and still have until May or June of next year to go. Saw my ortho Monday and he just said there was alot yet to do  You on the other hand deserve to be psyched!!!!!

Thanks :D

I had them for 14 months prior to surgery. Technically they were "ready" at month 11 but it took another three months before getting the surgery as they had to stabilise, for me to see the surgeon and then actually get booked in at the hospital.

Laurence - I am getting my treatment at an NHS dental hospital but I'm technically a private patient. I've paid the full fees and she sees me in her lunch hour (as obviously I'm not allowed to take up any NHS time). I get exactly the same treatment as an NHS patient, just without the waiting list, so there is hope for you yet!

Smile2006 - So that would make it about 18 months total time in braces then? By my reckoning I'll end up about the same, I guess that they just did most of my work pre-op and you're getting yours post-op!

Here's hoping that everyone gets theirs off in speedy succession. I can't wait until we can all compare our lovely new naked smiles :D

That's fantastic news. The waiting around pre-surgery seemed to go forever (over 2 years for me) but I really think it cuts down on your time in braces post-surgery.

At my last visit to the ortho, he said that mine would definitely be off during these Christmas summer holidays (and I'm about 4 months post-surgery). To have yours off so soon after surgery must be great. I have my next visit on Tuesday 19th so I'm hoping for my own debanding date then.

I'm so happy for you. It looks like you will be the first of the recent crop of surgery 'survivors' to have your braces off.
