Preparation for surgery is torturous, suggestions ?

#1 Post by kgaudette18 »

so! I finally got my date for my orthognathic surgery (double jaw) on July 9! I'm doing my final spacing for the surgeon to cut now and I have never been so miserable. I have tmj and extremely bad jaw pains anyways so this isn't helping.

does anyone have any suggestions on softer, lower carb foods? I'm trying to stay away from like soggy cereals and hot cereals because of the carbs and trying not to gain weight, but its all over been able to eat for the past week :(

Here are a few links to soft food suggestions

I also am trying to keep my soft foods relatively low-carb, which is an extra challenge. Have you tried scrambled or poached eggs? I have also been eating a lot of hummus, lentil soup, and yogurt. You could try increasing the protein/carb ratio in your hot cereal by mixing in some peanut butter. Soups are also a good option, even if you have to put them through a blender first.

I've also heard that most people lose weight after surgery, because of challenges eating, so I'm not sure I would be too worried about gaining a little weight.

Good luck,
Molly

Lentils. I like to boil lentils in chicken broth with carrots. It's delicious, soft, and they also blend really well once you're on a recovery diet and need that sort of thing. They're high protein and high fiber.
