Normal to have residual swelling a little over two months?

#1 Post by Nathaniel »

Hi everyone,

I had my double jaw surgery a little over two months ago, I am really loving the result! The one thing though that I find really noticeable is that in pictures you can clearly tell there's residual swelling in the cheeks and around the sides of the nose.

How long does this last usually, can anyone share their experiences or insights? I met one individual and he mentioned that it took almost a year for his to fully, fully go away!!

Thanks everyone!

I don't have an answer to your question, but I did look at your blog and it is very informative although it's missing some post-op pictures. Care to share?

yes. originally i was told swelling would be 90% gone by 8 weeks, apparently that isn't the case and swelling can go on for months, 6+ ive been told.

residual swelling is very common and i wouldnt worry especially so early in the recovery.

Hi Marisama, thank you! Yes I will, I'm actually away from home right now but when I get back ill put some up along with my picture-a-day post from day 1 onward.

CaliforniaKid, thank you for your insights! You've put my concerns at rest a few times already hahah thank you. How's your swelling and your lip closing (that was another one of my questions from the past IIRC).

Cheers!

not sure on the status of my swelling, probably only my surgeon would be able to notice it or someone with an eye for jaw surgery if there is any. my lips remain slightly open at rest, but that's part of the technique of AG i think. im hoping the lips come closer together. when i rest my head my top lip is pulled slightly above my braces and my lower lip shoots down. hoping they seal or come closer together when sleeping eventually.
