contacting insurance

#1 Post by treevernal »

its been a little over a month since we submitted my pre-authorization to ins but we still havent heard anything. is it a good idea to contact the insuance company to see how things are coming along or is it best to just let them take their time?

I'd contact them just to see where things stand, make sure they received the claim, etc.

Thanks,

I called them today only to find out they haven't received anything yet. Natasha told me she was still waiting to hear back from them but if they don't have anything in their hands to review yet, thats a problem. I emailed her earlier just to see if everything was okay. I know she's busy and I hate to bug her but if UHC lost my info or it got lost in the mail that would suck...

I only heard that I was approved from Natasha. It took 3 months to receive a letter and they even sent it to the wrong address. Some of these people are not the smartest bunch. I would definitely be all over them if you want to see things move quickly.

I got braces on today, by the way. They're just like I remember! This will be the last time with braces now that I am finally fixing the problem with surgery.

Ah ok, maybe the person I talked to just wasn't in the loop or something. Who knows. I'm sure Natasha will respond to me email tomorrow. I'm just getting anxious about getting approved because if I'm not, I wanna know sooner rather than later so I can figure out my other options.

Congrats on getting braces! Yeah, you'll get lots of comments from people, haha. They're a pain to clean but you'll get used to em fast. Welcome to the brace-face club.

I have UHC as well, with an oral surgery exclusion. My surgeon submitted a letter of medical necessity in mid-February (my surgery is in Fall 2013, and we're hoping to get all this stuff out of the way first).

I called my insurance yesterday and they claimed to not have the letter, after being transferred to three different people. I called my surgeon's insurance coordinator to ask for them to resend it, and she said she had talked to one of them March 22 and they verified that they do have it and it's under review. She thinks they may not have it entered in their computer system yet.

In talking to her, it seems like this is the norm.

Thanks for that, batwing; it makes me feel better to hear that. I had a feeling they really did have it but maybe just aren't allowed to discuss it with patients while the review is going on because my insurance coordinator said she sent it a little while ago. Good luck with your surgery!
