So my lower teeth are flared out a bit. My surgeon said that he could do BSSO without lower bicuspid extraction and move the lower jaw forward by 7mm and do genio as well. I am also getting my upper jaw shortened. On the other hand, my ortho wants to extract my lower biscuspid and get the lower teeth in an upright position first because it allows more room for lower jaw advancement. My ortho also said with or without extraction, the cosmetic result would look the same, but with extraction it would be more stable ( i dont know what he means by stable). I am confused who I should listen to. Currently, I have no problems with jaw functionality. I just dontlike the look of it. My questions is should I do extraction or go for sugery without extraction.
Also how long do u wait for surgery after wisdon teeth extraction?
Surgery with or without lower extractions????

Re: Surgery with or without lower extractions????
I think that by 'more stable' they just mean that if your teeth are in as good a place as possible before surgery, then there's less chance of them moving about in a few years time and messing things up again, but please don't take my word for that - get the professionals to clarify.
I just had all my wisdom teeth out a couple of weeks ago because I moved house and whereas my old surgeon said I didn't need them out, my new surgeon said he'd prefer them out of the way. I too had a huge wobble over what was the right course of action but decided not to argue with the guy who'd be sawing my face apart in a few months! In terms of treatment time he said it'd be six months after extractions before any further surgery could take place so the bone could fully heal. Seems odd to me because the extractions were straightforward with no pain or stitches, but I guess there's more going on under the gum than you realise. Good luck with it.
