Teeth not lining up

#1 Post by indecisive1 »

Hi everyone, I was wondering how many people had tooth assymetry post surgery. Not sure if that is the correct term but I don't mean jaw assymetry. I noticed post op that my lower teeth have shifted to the right slightly meaning my upper incisors and lower incisors do not line up (hope this makes sense). Is this generally corrected by the orthodontist or is it something that cannot be corrected. Also curious to know why this happened considering my teeth aligned perfectly pre -op. Could it be possible that my lower jaw was off pre-op? Has anyone else experienced this? Just curious.

I'm not sure if you're describing a posterior open bite, but that is VERY common after a BSSO if your jaw was rotated.

In any case, I'm almost certain your orthodontist will be able to fix this with rubber bands or by repositioning the brackets.

Nobody comes out of surgery with a perfect bite...not even close! So, you're certainly on par with the rest of us!

Good Luck!

Sounds like your midlines don't match up, which is quite common post-surgery (and pre-surgery); I think it's often partly because of your muscles getting used to your new jaw position but it can usually be tweaked orthodontically if it doesn't go on it's own.

My midlines didn't match up a week after surgery, but now they're pretty much central, and things are still being tweaked!

Chicago, I hate to say it, but by all accounts I DID come out of surgery with my bite being, essentially, perfect! Even my surgeon was surprised. He thinks the ortho will likely just want to do a TINY bit of fine tuning on one of my canines, but that it's basically good to go.

So, just saying :)

Broadway...you should go buy a lottery ticket! It seems a lot of us have bite issues that need to get worked out.

Overall, I'd say mine is more "good" than "bad", but that's awesome yours seems to be all lined up.

Now, if you get your braces off before me I'm going to be quite mad

I know, I felt pretty damn lucky too... even the three surgeons in the room when I did my one-week were amazed!

Fear not, though... I have at least 8 more months in braces, because my ortho is neurotic (by his own admission) and insists on allowing things to "set and settle."

Plus, I have already been in these dastardly wires for NEARLY 4 YEARS! Either way, you're coming out the winner!
