for those who have had genioplasty

#1 Post by indecisive1 »

Hi everyone. I had a double jaw surgery and genioplasty 5 weeks ago. My question is, is it normal to have swelling and feel uncomfortable every morning. I still have a bit of swelling on the left side of my face although no numbness. My chin is still a little numb although the feeling is slowly coming back. I am trying to get used to that constant pins and needles/stretching feeling on my chin, sometimes its worse than others. My concern however is every morning when I wake up I appear to look more swollen and my chin hurts. Is this normal? If so when can I expect it to get better?

I'm 8 weeks in and I still feel puffy and uncomfortable, especially in the morning. I guess it's different for everyone, and I'm probably a slow healer. I'm curious about other people's responses.

hi there indecisive1,

I would say that that is completely normal. I have felt the same feeling you describe pretty much every morning for the last 11 weeks. It will get better, trust me. I still wake up with some uncomfortable feeling on my chin and upper gums, but that part of my face feels more natural and consequently less uncomfortable every week. The stretching feeling will get better too (although at roughly around 5, 6 weeks post-op, I thought it never would). Hang in there. By week 8-10 you will feel much better.

Thank you so much for responding guys. It's reassuring to know that it is normal and others are experiencing the same thing. Thanks again for your advice and words of encouragement.

It is completely normal. I still get a tingle now and then.
