What about facebook?

#1 Post by Lingualita »

How do you handle pictures post-op on facebook. I'm going to have surgery later on, and I'm quite curious how you guys handled it.

On the one hand, I think it would've been kinda cool to just post a picture of me crazy swollen, just to "get it out there", but on the other hand, I'm not sure how much attraction I want to draw to the surgery.

What do you guys think?

Hey Lingualita!

I haven't posted any post-op photos on facebook yet. There's a lot of people on there that I don't want to explain things to, but then, I'm not one to post a lot of updates or anything anyway. The people I told about my surgery I sent a link to my blog...that way family and friends could get updates without everyone knowing every detail through facebook.

I'll probably start putting up some pictures soon since I look pretty "normal" to other people. To me, I still look strange, but I think that's normal at this point.

How much longer til your surgery date? I hope it's soon...I know you've been waiting a long time!

Hi there! I've been open and honest about my surgery since day 1. I posted all my pics throughout my journey on FB including the very ugly ones taken in the ortho's office, getting prepped for surgery, while I was still under anesthesia and while my swelling was at it's peak.

It was amazing the response I got from people...all very positive, supportive and appreciating all I had gone through.

It's all about what YOU are comfortable sharing with people.

Thanks guys.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll just wait until after my surgery to see what I feel comfortable with. I don't know my surgery date yet, but I'm hoping sometime this fall. This wait seems forever sometimes, but it's getting closer, slowly :D .

Only a close group of friends know that I had surgery. I have a bunch of H/S class mates on my FB and I didnt think any of them needed to know of my surgery. Heck none of my family other than my dad know I had the surgery. The only pic I posted was of the X ray of my jaw after surgery with the 4 plates and 21 screws.

I'm not going to bother posting pics because I don't think I'll look that different. All my friends and family that I talk to on a regular basis know about the surgery. Who knows, maybe I'll be surprised and look really different, but I doubt it.
