How long did u wear braces before u were ready for surgery?

Just curious how long everyone was in braces before the surgeon gave them the go ahead for surgery? Thanks!

Almost 2 years for me.

I had four premolars extracted just before getting braced, and that was the main thing I had to wait for before I was surgery-ready. That took about 14 months, and then I had to wait an additional 3 months until I was done with finals.

Hopefully the extra time before surgery means I'll wear them less after surgery.

Goes to show how every case is different - no braces for me before my 2-piece LeFort I three weeks ago - maybe because I had to expand. I di have the added bonus that I had my premolars out when I was very young in attempt to fix everything - but it didn't work. My OS was happy to leave in my four wisdom teeth - so no further extractions. After the operation I expanded for about two weeks, and then I'll get braced a couple of weeks from now. Once everything is straightened up they will do the BSSO, hopefully next May.

18 months. My bottom braces are less - and they're not straight yet. I thought the reason I had braces beforehand was to straighten my teeth but actually I think I could've had them any time - I'm only having my operation now because I'm old enough/stopped growing, nothing to do with teeth straightness.

I am having surgery in August and I have had my braces on for 4 years.

At the time of surgery it will be 18 months.

my orthodontst told me 2 years but its going on 3 years and i am still waiting to have surgery.
