How long was your jaw banded shut?

I made it to day 6 today of my double jaw surgery/genioplasty. The first few days were hell but now I'm slowly recovering.

I was curious about others' experiences with post-op elastics. The elastics I woke up with after surgery felt/feel very tight and don't allow me to open my mouth at all. They've been the most uncomfortable part of the experience.

Today was my first post-hospital visit and the OS decided to keep these "bands of death" (my affectionate term for them) for another week. I didn't object (could I?) but it does seem longer than average from what I've been reading. I'm supposed to get my "nicer" removable bands in one week.

How long was your jaw banded shut?

i was banded tight for 2 weeks
then removable ones for 5 weeks
and am still banded at 8 weeks post op due to complications

Mandibular advancement surgery on 1/11.

Bands removed on 1/13 and replaced with elastics.

Appt on 1/19 revealed screws have come loose and occlusion is now severe malocclusion. Wired shut now for 5 weeks.

I was tightly banded for 5 weeks. Was supposed to replace bands every couple of days after the first 2 weeks but that was the only time I was allowed to take them off. Then at 5 weeks my Ortho took over and switched me to his lighter elastics.
