All I can say is wow...!!!!!
I am officially on the other side. I had my surgery on Tuesday. Of course the day did not start off great. The hospitial call me and said that my surgery was moved up from 3pm to 11am. Of course I had no phone call to let me know. So that made me cry. I had to call around to find a ride to the hospital.
The surgery itself was not bad but I think I woke up screaming because I was in pain. I actually have the inscisions on the outside of my cheeks. I am already ready for this swelling to go down and my tongue to go down also. Also this congestion in the nose is the WORST. The saline is helping a little but not much. The best part is the Percocet!

Congratulations! And welcome to the other side.
Too bad about the ride and the pain. What kind of incisions do you have outside your cheeks? I just have 2 small punctures, but they are almost completely disappearing.
I think you'll have to take a deep breath about the swelling--I am over 2 weeks post op and am becoming impatient with the uncomfortable swelling/pain inside the cheeks--and the numbness on my upper lip. It takes time, sadly, but hopefully we'll both be able to smile about it all in a few weeks.
Take it easy on yourself. The first week is the worst, but by next week you'll probably at least have your energy back.
Just don't neglect the nutrition, even though you may not want to eat.

I actually don't feel that bad. I just don't like the feeling on only one side of my tongue. It is sooooo numb and it hurts to move it. For some reason it is keeping my mouth open and making my mouth extremlly dry. I think I only have the punctures on each side of my cheeks. At first he was going to do everything on the inside but I guess it is ok if they go away in time.
All I can say is PERCOCET, PERCOCET, PERCOCET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a dry mouth for the first week too--I was on Hydrocodone. Might have been that. I think the numbness on the roof of my mouth also seemed to make the mouth feel drier than it was. Sorry about your tongue. That's one thing that wasn't/isn't numb on me. Just grit your teeth with your new bite and hang on for a bumpy ride--the next few days, at least, will be annoying. It gets better, though.
Welcome to the other side!
Don't worry about the sutures on your cheeks. I had one on each side too. They were just small punctures to put screws in w/one stitch on each side. They did not leave a scar at all.
Best wishes on a quick recovery!

gl on your recovery. i know exactly how you feel (mine was on monday). they told me things should turn for the better today so maybe that happens for you tomorrow.

Congratulations on making it through.
Continue to hydrate as much as you can. It will aid in your healing.
Proper nutrition, lots of rest, and some short walks when you feel able will help with swelling and healing. Remember to be really nice to yourself, and have patience for the process. It will take time, but you will feel better!
Be well, and at peace,
Phil

I had surgery on both upper and lower jaws. At first it was going to be the upper but when he lined them up they were still off. Now I could have left it alone and just did the upper and finish my braces treatment but I just decided to do both since I was knocked out anyway and it was submitted to the insurance company anyway.
Teylix we are in the same boat. Hopefully your congestion isn't as bad as mine
Good luck with your recovery also. Not much you can do with percocet running through your system. I know I have not eaten (or drank) enough. I am trying but with this tongue it is frustrating.

Yeah, if your insurance covered it and you could get it done in the one operation then why not! But that brings up something I've been wondering about the US... health insurance. Does it tend to cover all types of orthodontic and orthognathic treatment or does it vary according to the specific company and the severity of your condition? Sorry about going OT but it's just something I've been wondering about.
Oh, and percocet, is that a pain killer and is that the proprietary name... you know, like Valium, or something?
