Surgery Tomorrow (Underbite)

#1 Post by joao »

Hi guys!

It's been a while since I stopped posting on this board... im using braces for two years and I will finally have surgery tomorrow. You can see the first 6 months of my braces story on this thread. I stop updating it mainly because it keeped me always awared and thinking on my braces, mouth etc.. and i decided to only post my post-surgery situation.

The jaw surgery will consist on moving both jaws, the upper jaw will be moved 4mm forward and it will be rotated and the bottom jaw will be pushed back. I'm already at the hospital, and thank God i can use my notebook :D.

Im a little nervous with the surgery.. because there will be so much changes on my jaws, that will certainly affect my appearance. But i hope to be as great as many other users that also corrected their underbite.

Well that's it.. feel free to ask/say anything that you may have in mind :)

I'll try to post something after surgery hehe. :)

Cya soon!

After surgery [day - 7] [pic]

#3 Post by joao »

Hi guys,

Sorry i didn't post earlier, but i was to tired to use my computer. Surgery last 5 hours, and the doctor said that it went great. I have to say the first days following the surgery were the worst days of my life... my face was all swollen (and it still is!) and i did feel some pain, even with all those pain killers that the nurses gave me.

Right after i got awake after surgery, the first thing i tried to felt was if the underbite was gone... and after i got that feeling of all teeth working on a compact bite i was so relieved... like mission accomplished..

My mouth was so dry that i was dying for some water... and when the nurse gave me water with a syringe, it was the second best moment of the day :D.

It's been a week since surgery and i'm still swollen. Eating, drinking and brushing is always a hardcore experience and it leaves me very frustated... not to mention when i watch my family eating meat.. fries... and all kind of normal food. Right now i'm just eating soups, fruit juice and not much more.

The surgeon also said that i might need a genio surgery later... but he is not sure, because he prefers to wait a few months how my chin will look like.

About the numbness... both of my lips are completely numb... and i don't have any feeling in many places around my nose.

Here are some photos of me on this moment.

Congrats on getting through your surgery! You are quite swollen aren't you- you must be so curious to see what you'll look like when the swelling's subsided!
Thanks for sharing :)
