I will be having my jaw moved forward in about 9 months or so.
I can't comment on swelling, but I was told I would be going home the same day unless there were complications, but it depends on you surgeon and your exact procedure.

I had my jaw advanced 13mm and the swelling was about what i expected, one side was completley numb and the other was completley awake straight after op, so i did have some pain, but was soon given pain killers.

I was in hosp for 2 nights (should have been 3 but discharged myself) but i did have some complications and im also in the UK and they tend to keep us in longer here.

I had mine advanced like 5mm i think... I was in the hospital overnight... My swelling was really bad for a few days then it just looked like I was a little fat for a few weeks, haha. I got some interesting looks. I was numb for a month or two but now I'm better than new :)

Hey loulou, seems like you had a pretty large move in the jaw, about what I was looking for. Did the doctor have to perform a Lefort osteomy as well, or just went with the BSSO? I'm curious as the surgeon I'm talking with says that he will not be able to do just a BSSO without the Lefort, and the Lefort surgery is BRUTAL.

Hi scm007

I just had thr BSSO, but literally right up to surgery a lefort was a possibility too. Infact until about 6 weeks before op a lefort was a definate.

My surgeon decided that he was happy to do the op on the lower jaw alone, but said it was at the extreme of his comfort zone. Looking back now, after a few post op problems, i wonder if itd been better to have both jaws moved abit, rather than one alot!

Hi There,
I'm scheduled for lower jaw advancement surgery on Dec 9th, I will be going home the same day and won't need to be banded or wired. Not sure how many mm yet the surgeon plans to move my jaw. I have my measurement done next monday.
I hope you won't have to stay in the hospital. I would be more comfortable at home.
