Iborg- I think that if you are already in braces, and going through the whole orthodntic thing right now...and there is something inside of you thats wants this surgery (even if just for vanity reasons) than having it done is in noo way stupid!
You don't want to live with regret, and if you do have it I don't think you will regret it...but if you don't...who knows?
I struggled with the do I/don't I for a long time....so I understand the mental war your having!

One thing I know for sure....you can't go through something like this unless YOU want it. If you are doing it for someone else (be that the orthodontist, family, dentist...etc...) than it would be a struggle.

Hi Mike,

I agree 100% with Meryaten's reply, it wasnt so much about learning to chew again, i just couldnt do it because my mouth wasnt strong enough, as for talking i was chatting to the nurse for ages after i woke from my op,... i just remember having a sore throat, and my jaw felt tender,(swollen) but thats it.

i was worried about my surgery for months leading up to it, and wondering whether i should be going this far to fix my smile, but im REALLY happy about the way my teeth look and the way my jaws line up, i dont regret anything for a second, the other thing is the surgery wasnt anywhere near as painful or scary as i thought it was going to be, im not going to lie, its no picnic! but it wasnt that bad, and i recovered really quickly, now 8 weeks on, i am completely recovered.... no pain, no discomfort, no swelling. and pretty much eating normally.

im an all or nothing person, i could have just had the braces, but i wouldnt have ever achieved the perfect result without the surgery, and i would recommend it completely,... but think about what you want to achieve, and understand all the facts, surgery is a big deal, so bear everything in mind.

Hi Maryjay,

You have such amazing results - it's very inspiring. Congratulations too on getting debraced so quickly. You must be so delighted - I know I would be!!

Can I ask you how far your lower jaw was moved forward? It looks as if the braces pulled your top teeth backwards a bit from your original 13mm overbite, but you've had such dramatic results that I can't believe your lower jaw was moved much less than that. I ask because your overbite looks much like mine does now (I think its about 10mm with some more to go still).

All the best for the debracing and please post some photos...It keeps the rest of us going to see such great results!

Genevieve.

Hi guys, thank you for all your kind words, today has been a crazy day, but my braces are gone!!! :dance:
ive written all about it here, and of course pics too!
viewtopic.php?t=17222&start=45

I feel so weird! my teeth feel slimy, very very big, very very perfect, and i just dont recognize myself! wasnt expecting this at all, but i am happy! :-)
Genevieve, my surgery took my bottom jaw forward 6mm, and braces did the rest,... bringing my top teeth not only back, but realigning them, and magically made them all the same height too!

....well im heading to bed now, just gotta clean my naked teeth for the 1st time! :-}
