So it has gotten to the point I avoid Walgreens and Target because I am sick of getting searched!!!!! everytime I go in or out the theft thing goes off!!!! It has never happened before and always happens now that I have braces. Is it just me or does this happen to other people. I mean I literally can be wearing clothes I have had for years not carring a purse and not have anything in my pockets and BEEP BEEP BEEP every time! OK I know its weird but are braces to blame?

Hmm.. that's odd.. I go to both of those stores and luckily that has not happened to me.

Could there be anything new that you may have gotten recently that you carry with you all the time that could set it off?

Maybe there is a one of those sensors in your purse or wallet? Do a thorough check.

What kind of braces do you have?? I have ceramic uppers and metal lowers.

They seem to go off a lot on me too, but I haven't figured out what it is though.

I have the regular metal brackets, and nothing has ever gone off on me.

The one in Taget would always go off on my daughter and we had no idea why until one day I was getting ready to wash her winter coat and found the sensor was hidden inside the fabric! We removed it and it didnt happen again.
She was starting to get a real complex. LOL I thought it was pretty funy myself.

I have never had any sensor go off with my braces ( store, airport, etc) my son also had braces for 2 years and we never had a problem with his either. I would check your coat/jacket, purse, shoes, cell phone... everything you carry. Some sales clerk probably forgot to remove one or deactivate it.

My dad is a Sheriff's Deputy at the court house and I told him I was going to go up there and see if the metal detector would go off and he burst my little bubble before I got the chance. He said it wouldn't go off. Not sure about the theft detectors, though. I work at Wal-mart and we have them go off for no apparent reason all the time. Usually it ends up being a cell phone but who knows.

What a stinker! They've never gone off on me, but everytime I go through one I'm waiting for it to happen. Part of me wants to start running if it happens, just for fun... :D

One time I had a pair of shoes that they forgot to remove the sticker from. I set them off whenever I wore those shoes.

It's funny you should mention sensors inside garments. My daughter bought an item recently....I can't remember what it was....and a sensor was SEWN INTO THE GARMENT!!! I noticed it when I went to wash it. It was on a tag that said, "remove this tag before washing."

I had never seen that before, and I thought it was really strange. I mean, who would think to look for a sensor sewn into a shirt or whatever? They should warn you about things like that. Is this some strange new security trend?

I think it just depends on the store and the sensitivity level they have set. I can't say I set the things off. Although one time I bought something at one store and left no problem. Browsed another store and the item I bought at the previous store set off the alarms. Just guessing it's store to store, model to model.

My dh used to set off the sensor when coming or going. He had a key card that he carried to get him into his work. We found out it was that which was setting off the alarm  .

My cell phone sets off the sensor at one of our drugstores. It's annoying so I try and remember to leave the phone in the car when I go in there.

I believe they are supposed to demagnetize these things when you buy it and before you leave the store. Sometimes they forget and for some reason their security alarm does not go off when you leave. This happened to me with something I wanted to return. Alarms were going off all over the place! But yes, they are sewn into the fabric. It is probably cheaper and doesn't damage the clothes like those big clunky things that are pinned on and have to be removed.
