Went in for an adjustment today and started with the usual weather smalltalk and then the assistant said, "Well looks like your just about halfway through your treamtment."
My original estimate was 18-24 months and I've already had them 16 months. Judging by how good my teeth were looking I truely believed that I might have these things off sometime this summer, now I find out I'm probably in store for ANOTHER 16 months. I got home and looked in the mirror and just the thought of all that metal for so much longer....I feel very frustrated and ugly right now. I'm sorry for the vent, but I'm just devestated.

Off November 06!
That must have been depressing to hear--if the ortho had said it, I would definitely be feeling the same as you. However, my experience so far with my ortho's office (and I won't even be braced until next Wednesday) is that the assistants sometimes casually say things that may not be completely accurate.
Maybe you should call and ask for some clarification by the ortho as to whether or not you are only really halfway through...just a thought.
Sorry you are having such a terrible day.
Uppers placed 2/8/06--Inspire ICE ceramics
Lower (stainless) placed 2/23/06
Treatment time: 17 months (estimated was 12-18 months)
Debonded: July 11th, 2007
Next appointment: June 2008 for retainer & nightguard check
Sorry you're feeling down. I wouldn't put too much stock in what an assistant says. It's the ortho's time determination that counts. When you go in for your next adjustment, why not ask the ortho? Just be prepared for his answer - I worked up the guts to ask at my adjustment last month and didn't get the answer I was hoping for!
Hang in there. What's a few extra months after everything you've already had to go through.

Ditto here. Forget the assistant. Get another appointment where you can speak to the ortho and get it from the horse's mouth. His is the only opinion that counts!
Awww....I feel your pain. I won't even ASK about time frames. I was told 18 months and I just hope it's not longer!! I hate my braces sooo much!!!!! HATE HATE...grrr.....not regret....but HATE!! lol
Always, always ask your orthodontist about things that are important! Time and time again the assistants are wrong and really it's not their place to give you any time estimates.

I am sorry you had such a bad day I agree, I would talk to the ortho about the situation (obviously he knows more about the case). I'm sure that the asst. was only trying to help brighten your day (yay you're almost done!), but unfortunately had the opposite affect.

Sorry about the messed up post above. I meant to say the ortho told me I would have them for about 2 more appointments then the assistant tells me 7 more months.
