Going to dentist

Good Morning

I was wondering if anyone here has gone to the dentist since being "braced" for a cleaning, flouride, etc. (by their regular dentist). I am due for a cleaning and didn't know how they did it with the wire and brackets in the way?!

If anyone has experienced it, let me know!! Thanks. :-#)

My dentist cleaned my teeth with some sort of water spraying device! It wasnt very pleasant... the water went all over my face! There also was a lot more scraping than usual... and they didn't bother to floss.

Not the best cleaning ever, but hopefully your dentist does things differently.

My ortho office actually cleaned my teeth. They took off the wire and were able to floss between all my teeth and they did the whole scrapping thing to get rid of plaque and stuff. I even had the floride. It was great... they said they'd never seen braces so clean! :D

Cleaning is an ordeal

My cleanings are just as messy as stargirl's! It's got baking soda in it but it sprays so hard it can clean a penny. They finally got the mix right last time and I didn't leave with a white "mask" around my mouth, but the next time I get my teeth cleaned, they won't be using that. Other than that, there's the usual scraping and flossing and polishing.

When i called to schedule my regular cleaning with my dentist they said I had to go get the wires off. I know some can actually clean them with them on though.

My hygienest does my cleanings with my wires on. Very little scraping (thanks to my Sonicare, I think) and then she polishes them with a sandblaster thingy. I think it's called a prophyjet? She covers my face, except for around my mouth, with lightweight towels so I don't get a shower from it. Then she flosses and I'm done. My cleanings since braces have actually been easier than before. I think due to my extra vigilance in brushing and flossing.

I ended up seeing my dentist for a cleaning 2 hours after I got braced. Here, it takes FOREVER to get into see anyone, and it took 2 monthsto get in for a cleaning. Not to mention it took a year and a half to get my braces on!

They couldn't really do a whole lot when I got my teeth cleaned, so the hygeniest just cleaned around the brackets the best she could, then scraped away the easy to get at plaque, and got me to rinse with flouride. Only took a half hour, but I would have wished they did a more through job.

My dentist does everything, including my braces. They change the wires and they do deep cleaning

SO they don' need to get rid of the wires or anything i guess

I work at a dentist and we just clean them regularly. It's not any different than if you didn't have any braces on.

I have 3 offices that coordinate appointments for me. My ortho, my periodontist (gum problems), and my regular dentist. I rotate my cleaning appts with the reg dentist and the periodontist every 3 months. And my ortho gives me appts before and after to get the wires taken out and put back in. And I agree, that "sandblasting" they do is a MESS!
